Members Assisting New Book Authors
The PWR club helps published book authors interact with other published book authors as well as those who have not finished writing their first book and are now faced with publishing their first book.
In the era of the availability of inexpensive computer resources and abundant internet technology, established and aspiring book authors may publish their books as hard copies or as e-books. Another important decision is whether to publish through an established publication firm or to self-publish. A self-published e-book can be sold through an online company as an electronic file or as a hard copy. The latter option has been referred to as print-on-demand.
Aspiring book authors have a variety of resources available through their ongoing-participation in PWR club activities, as a non-member or member. Non-members can review summaries of presentations at monthly meetings. Titles and presentation summaries are available from the “EVENTS/MONTHLY MEETINGS HISTORY” page of this website. Aspiring book authors should find the May 7, 2016 presentation relevant to the completion of a full-length book manuscript. The title is, “Professional Copy Editing” by Mary Lou Schram, Julie Blade and Dr. Paul Weisser.
Once a book has been published, the next challenge for all book authors is this: How to effectively publicize a recently published book? There were other monthly presentations that covered these challenges, as separate issues: July 9, 2016 by Angie Corio, “What Makes a Good Interview”; August 6, 2016 by Marthine Sartis, “How to Land a Valuable Review”; September 3, 2016 by Marina Roden, “How PWR Self-Published Authors Can Market their Books”; and finally, October 1, 2016 by Becky Parker Geist and David Kudler, “Effective Book Publishing Marketing Tips”.
PWR club members can benefit by being able to take advantage of book publicity efforts; these include articles in the “Rossmoor News”, Rossmoor Channel 28 interviews, and month-long book displays in the Rossmoor library.
The other benefits available to PWR club members include the opportunity to participate in “MONTHLY FEATURED AUTHORS”, “BOOK LAUNCH PARTIES” and the “FALL BAZAAR”.
Everyone who attends the monthly meetings will be able to interact with other meeting attendees. The opportunity to network with other persons who have the same interest in book publishing and marketing could mean obtaining assistance that will lead to taking a completed and unpublished book manuscript to the next level, ending up with a published book.
